Personal Number Allocation

Durante la seconda guerra mondiale tutti i reggimenti ed i Royal Corp dell'esercito britannico avevavo un proprio blocco di numeri di identificazione a sette cifre da utilizzare nell'assegnazione dei Personal Number dei soldati.

Era però non raro che ci fossero dei soldati con matricole antecedenti o che, a causa di spostamenti all'interno dei vari reggimenti, puer avendo combattuto in un dato reggimento avevo il Personal Number di un altro blocco.

Per esempio analizzando i caduti inglesi sepolti in Italia del quinto battaglione del Northamptonshire Regiment si trova, tra i 160 caduti, la seguente situazione:
- allocazione riservata al Northamptonshire Regiment 5.875.001-5.931.000.
- 62 caduti con personal number corrispondente.
- 44 caduti con personal number di altri reggimenti.
- 54 caduti con personal number del Royal Corps.

Quindi se si trova un oggetto con personal number non è possibile avere con certezza la corrispondenza del reggimento (se non quello alla data dell'arruolamento). Per ricerche più dettagliate su un personal number si può consultare il sito War Force Records.
